The Home Alone Program is designed to provide children 10 years of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. The course is 3.5 hours long, but is scheduled for 4 hours to ensure that students who take longer on the exam have enough time to complete it.
The course material covers such topics as:
- Establishing a routine
- House Key is your responsibility
- Strangers
- Telephone/Cellphone Safety
- Dealing With Environmental/Weather Emergencies
- Dealing With Household Emergencies (Fire, Break-in’s etc.)
- Basic First Aid
- Internet Safety
- Walking Alone Safely
The Student Reference Book is designed to allow the program participants to actively participate in class assignments. It provides a review of the program material, as well as additional information that will be of value to the students.
